Antique Japanese Katazome Bolster, Buckwheat Filled
This small pillow was very likely created for use as a neck bolster, similar to those known as bachimakura.
It is made from a rice paste resist and stencil dyed, katazome fabric with a red cotton detail added to one side. The filling of buckwheat or rice hulls gives it a pleasing weight and feel.
In excellent condition and suitable for display.
