Panel of Old Indigo Dyed Shibori: Grape Leaf and Fan Motif
This is a wonderful old cotton textile with an elaborately dyed grape leaf and fan motif created with multiple shibori techniques. The faded indigo color is very appealing.
Ori-nui, or running stitch, has been used to outline grape leafs and a fan; boshi, or capped shibori, as white accents; kanoko, small looped and bound dots running diagonally; and even a small bit of kumo, a pleated and bound technique to create a spiderweb shape as seen within the fan.
Two separate pieces of cloth have been joined to create the full length. A tear has been repaired with solid indigo patches on the reverse. A small hole remains and some areas are a bit thinner than the rest. It has a medium weight with a natural hand.
Overall, it has a wonderful old atmosphere and age.
