This is a beautiful indigo cotton boro futon which was acquired from a textile auction in Tokyo.
This futon has been extensively mended with lovely sashiko stitching and patched and padded with a dramatic variety of hand loomed and homespun indigo dyed cottons, including kasuri, katazome, and shima. Our preferred side though is the extremely tattered proper front. This boro is a thick, heavy weight due to the multiple layers of patchwork.
An excellent archive of Japanese fabrics and collectible boro textile.
