Buckwheat Filled Katazome Bolster
This small pillow was very likely created for use as a neck bolster, similar to those used by geishas known as bachimakura. It is made from an indigo dyed, rice paste resisted, katazome fabric with a red silk detail added to one side. The filling of buckwheat or rice hulls gives it a pleasant heft.
The pillow is in excellent condition though there is light wear to the silk portion as seen in the photographs.
