Antique Cotton Kimono With Mixed Techniques of Shibori and Katazome
This is beautiful yukata, or cotton kimono, with mixed techniques of shibori tie dye and katazome resist dyed stencil details.
The shibori process presented is arashi shibori, where the cloth is first wrapped around a pole and then dyed, with natural indigo in this case. This gives rise to the beautiful striped, wave-like pattern that dances throughout the ground of the kimono.
To complete the design, floral and botanical motifs were added to the cloth using a katazome technique, with a stencil and rice paste resist. The result is a bold, graceful, and unique cotton kimono.
It is in excellent condition without stains or repairs. We are proud to be able to offer this stunning kimono, a favorite piece from our collection.
