Vintage Japanese Hinagata - A Miniature Practice Sewing Kimono
This is a charming vintage practice sewing kimono known as hinagata, which were made in order to learn skills needed to create full sized clothing. This particular hinagata is a type of coat worn over kimono, known as michiyuki. Entirely hand sewn with a keen eye to detail, complete with miniature ties to close the coat.
A wonderful plain woven cotton with a dyed floral motif of undulating wisteria and peonies is used. A tiny reinforcement of white cotton is placed along the shoulder area. In excellent vintage collection with just one portion of light discoloration to the white inner lining.
We especially love hinagata when treated as special display kimono—hung carefully on a well chosen wall or as part of a larger collection.
