Vintage Japanese Zokin, Traditional Dust Cloth
This is a traditional Japanese zokin, or hand stitched dust cloth.
Zokin were created from salvaged fabric—such as a fragment from a worn out kimono, perhaps—which was layered, secured, and reinforced with sashiko stitching. A practical reuse of cloth to aid in cleaning and dusting around the home.
This is example is created from four or five layers of cloth. Each side is patched cotton with a faint brown check, likely the lining from a kimono.
